Hello, nice to meet you! I’m Beth, aka Madame B, head designer & owner of Madame B’s Boutique, fashion history nerd and unapologetic gin swilling feminist.
I started this business because I was disappointed by my shopping experiences when planning my own wedding. The accessories in particular were all either cheap and nasty or terrifyingly expensive, a homogeneous sea of pastels and diamanté. There had to be a better way!
I had been experimenting with making fascinators and corsages from fabric, so I decided to up my game and learn some serious millinery (hat-making) skills from the London College of Fashion. I totally fell in love with this not-quite-lost art. My tutor was Chloe Scrivener, who has worked with such prestigious names as Philip Somerville (the Queen’s former milliner) and Philip Treacy.
Now, I use a combination of traditional skills and contemporary design and mix them up with a little goth, burlesque and boho styling to create something exciting and new. Fast forward five years, and my work has been featured on blogs like Girl Gets Wed, Mr & Mrs Unique and Way Out Wedding, and in print in Brides Magazine, Vogue and Berks, Bucks & Oxon Wedding Magazine. I’ve also exhibited at Warwickshire Open Studios, Oxfordshire Art Weeks and London Hat Week.
I’m always busy, but I love what I do! If you’ve got some exciting ideas you want to share, drop me a line to arrange a chat over a cuppa (or a cheeky G&T). Looking forward to hearing from you! x
